Awareness
Through Movement® classes are generally
taught in a group situation where the teacher verbally guides you
through gentle movements. By bringing attention to the process of
the move (rather than the end result) we aim to find a greater awareness
of the self, and to learn from this awareness so that we have more
options for self use.
Learning
from movement can affect the nervous system to offer greater possibility
of movement. Given options of movement the body's nervous system
will always chose the easiest and most effective. It is this level
of learning that we aim to achieve: giving ourselves options so
that we may find the most effective method for ourselves.
There
is no ideal of movement in the Feldenkrais Method®
but rather it aims to help you find your own ideal. That suited
only to yourself and your history that has brought you to the point
where you are now at. Whether that is a history of limited movement
due to injury or disability; a history of heightened movement due
to dance, sports, acting or the like.
Awareness
Through Movement® classes can be very
satisfying because you are completely in control of your own level
of learning. People who have little awareness of themselves and
how they move will be amazed at how much there is to learn and at
the freedom and lightness of movements they can attain. People who
are already accustomed to being aware of their own self use will
be able to refine this awareness and hopefully gain much pleasure
from doing so.
